Understanding word
Term | Definition |

Backstage view | a screen that appears when you click the file tab in Word 2016. Contains commands for managing the document. |
Block style | Letter format has open or mixed punctuation and is commonly used in business documents. |
Command | An instruction based on the action that you perform in word. |
Dialog box | Displays additional information or options. |
Dialog box Launcher | A small arrow in the lower right corner of the group. |
Groups | Collections of related commands. |
I-beam | Insertion point changes into a large "I". |
Insertion point | Upper left corner of the document that is where you begin creating your text. |
Menu | drop down list of options associated with each command . |
Mixed punctuation | a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing. |
Non printing characters | symbols for certain formatting commands, such as paragraphs. |
Open punctuation | No punctuation after the salutation or closing. |

Quick Access Toolbar | Commands the user uses most often. |
Repeat | Does your last action again. |
Ribbon | More commands that the user uses most often. |
Save | Command saves the current document that you are working on. |
Save As | Shows up the first time you save a document, asking for the file name and location. |
Settings | A set of options applying to the current document you are working on. |
Tabs | Multiple commands included on your ribbon. |
Template | A format used to create a document. |
Undo | A command that un-does the last action taken by you. |
White space | Empty space between pages of the document. |
Word Wrap | Command that automatically wraps the text to the next line as it reaches the right margin. |
Preview | Gives you the opportunity to see what your printed document will look like. |
