Understanding word
| Term | Definition |

| Backstage View | Accessible through the file tab allows you to open, save, and find info about the file. |
| Block Style | Typing format that aligns the text along the left margin, including the date, inside address, salutation, body of the letter, closing, and signature. |
| Command | An instruction based on an that you perform by clicking a button or entering information into a command box. |
| Dialog Box | Displays additional information or options you can use to carry out a command |
| Dialog Box Launcher | Small arrow in the lower right corner of the group which you can use to open the dialog box |
| Groups | Collections of related word commands |
| Insertion Point | Upper left corner of the document where you begin making text |
| I-Beam | Occurs when you move your cursor close to the insertion point and the insertion point changes to a large "I" called the I-beam |
| Menu | List of associated options |
| Mixed Punctuation | Requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing |
| Non-printing characters | Symbols for certain formatting commands |
| Open punctuation | No punctuation after the salutation or closing is required |
| Preview | Tab that allows you to view what your printed document would look like |
| Allows document to be transferred to a physical copy | |
| Quick Access Toolbar | Located Above the Ribbon and contains commands users use most often. |
| Repeat | Command that repeats your last action |
| Ribbon | Contains Multiple commands on separate tabs |
| Save | Saves all progress on document |
| Save as | Allows you to specify file name and destination when saving |
| Settings | General Commands for document |
| Tabs | Gives access to specific commands |
| Template | Master document with a predefined layout, fonts, margins and styles |
| Undo | Lets you cancel or undo your last step |
| White Space | Space between pages of the document |
| Word Wrap | Automatically wraps words to the next line as they reach the end of the margin |
