Word Lesson 1: Understanding Word
| Term | Definition |

| Backstage View | A screen that appears when you click on the File tab in Word 2016 |
| Block Style | A format style that aligns text along the left margin. |
| Command | Instuctions based on an action that you perform in Word by clicking a button or entering information in the command box. |
| Dialog Box | Displays additional option or information that you can use to execute a command. |
| Dialog Box Launcher | A small arrow in the lower right corner of the group. |
| Groups | Collections of related word commands. Each group contains one or more command icons, some of which have a drop-down menu or a list of options associated with them. |
| I-Beam | When you place your cursor near the insertion point, the insertion point turns into a large 'I', which is called the I-Beam. |
| Insertion Point | The blinking insertion point in the upper-left corner of this document is where you begin creating your text. |
| Menu | A list of options. |
| Mixed Punctuation | Required a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing. |
| Nonprinting Character | Symbols for certain formatting command such as paragraphs, indents and tabs, and spaces. |
| Open Punctuation | Requires no punctuation after the salutation or closing. |
| Preview | Lets you view you document as it will appear when it is printed. |
| To send a document to a printer. | |
| Quick Access Toolbar | Located above the Ribbon and contains commands that users access most often. |
| Repeat | Repeats you last action. |
| Ribbon | Contains multiple command on seperate tabs. |
| Save | Clicking on Save in the Quick Access Toolbar for the first time opens the Save As screen. |
| Save as | Lets you save a document but you need to specify the file name and location of where it is to be saved. |
| Setting | Controls document-specific print parameters |
| Tabs | Enable you to create, open, save, close, share, print, and view information about your documents |
| Template | A master document with predefined page layout, fonts, margins, and styles that is used to create new documents with the same basic formatting. |
| Undo | Lets you cancel or undo you last Word command or action. |
| White Space | The space between pages of the document. |
| Word Wrap | Automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin. |
| Mini Toolbar | A small toolbar with popular commands that appears when you point to select text. |
