Word Lesson 1- Understanding Word
| Term | Definition |

| Backstage View | A screen that appears when you go to File in Microsoft word it also contains all the commands for managing the document. |
| Block Style | A format style that has open/mixed punctuation, and is very common to business documents. |
| Command | A command is a instruction based on what action you want to perform. |
| Dialog Box | A dialog box is a screen that displays additional options that you can use to execute a command. |
| Dialog box launcher | Is the small arrow in the lower right corner of your screen that brings up the dialog box. |
| Groups | A group is a collection of commands that are used in word. |
| I-beam | Is the point of insertion where your mouse cursor changes to a Large "I" |
| Insertion Point | The blinking "I" in the upper left corner of your screen where you first start creating a document. |
| Menu | A list of options associated with word. |
| Mixed punctuation | Punctuation that requires a colon after salutation and a comma after the closing. |
| Non-printing characters | Symbols for certain formatting commands. |
| Open punctuation | Requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing. |
| Preview | Lets you see what your document will look like before you start printing. |
| To create a physical copy of your document from word or any other document editing service | |
| Quick Access Toolbar | Located above the Ribbon and contains commands that users access most often. |
| Repeat | The repeat command repeats your last action. |
| Ribbon | The Ribbon contains multiple commands on separate tabs. |
| Save | The save button in the Quick access toolbar when is clicked for the first time opens the Save As screen. |
| Save As | Save as brings up a file explorer screen that allows you to give the documents a name, and place it in a location of your choosing. |
| Settings | General commands for a document. |
| Tabs | Give easy access to specific commands on Word. |
| Template | A master document with predefined page layout, fonts, margins, and styles that are used to create a new document. |
| Undo | Lets you cancel or undo your last Word command or action. |
| White space | The space between pages of the document. |
| Word Wrap | Automatically warps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin. |
