Word Lesson 1 Understanding Word
| Term | Definition |

| Backstage View | Contains commands for managing the document. |
| Block Style | Aligns text along the left margin, including the date, inside address, salutation, body of letter, closing, and signature. |
| Command | Instruction based on an action that you perform by clicking a button or entering information into a command box. |
| Dialogue Box | Displays additional options or information you can use to execute a command. |
| Dialogue Box Launcher | A small arrow in the lower-right corner of the group. |
| Groups | Collections of related Word commands. |
| I-beam | Insertion point changes to a large "I". |
| Insertion Point | Upper left corner where you begin creating your text. |
| Menu | A list of options. |
| Mixed Punctuation | Requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing. |
| Nonprinting Characters | Symbols for certain formatting commands, that do not show when you print. |
| Open Punctuation | Requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing. |
| Preview | Gives you an opportunity to see what your printed document will look like. |
| Command located on the file tab, where you can find the printing options. | |
| Quick Access Toolbar | Located above the ribbon and contains commands that users use most often. |
| Repeat | Lets you repeat your last action. |
| Ribbon | Contains multiple commands on separate tabs. |
| Save | Saves your work after using the save as button. |
| Save As | A command listed in the backstage view when you click the file tab, used to save your work for the first time. |
| Settings | Place where you can modify things on your Word document. |
| Tabs | Multiple pages. |
| Template | A master document with predefined page layout, fonts, margins, and styles that is used to create new documents with the same basic formatting. |
| Undo | Let's you cancel your last command on Word. |
| White Space | Space between pages of the document. |
| Word Wrap | Automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin. |
