ETHICS SOURCES OF LAW AND LEGAL SYSTEMS

Case Law | law based on judicial opinion oppose to law based on regulations,etc. (appeal case ruling) |
English Common Law | unwritten practice of legal traditions based on precedents--> unified by courts in england |
Ethics | moral principles/standards |
Greatest Good | the best outcome for a majority of people |
Law of Precedent | a issue decided by a court that can be used for future legal instances |
Statutory Law | laws enacted by a legislative body |
The Golden Rule | treating others as you want to be treated--> religious texts |
Consequential Ethical Reasoning | an ethical theory that judges whether or not something is right by what its consequences are--> ex. lying to save someones life |
Rule Based Ethical Reasoning | using fundamental ethical rules of either a recognized authority or human reasoning |
Ethics as Reflected in U.S. Laws and the U.S. Constitution | laws are made to protect the rights of the majority, the greatest number of people benefit |
Department of Homeland Security | public security, roughly comparable to the interior or home ministries of other countries |
Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Mission | combating drug trafficking and distribution within the United States |
