Cause of Diarrhoea? Villi damage by microorganism & Enterotoxin causes excessive production of cAMP in intestinal cells So, Water remains in the intestine
Common Pathogens of GTI? Bacteria: Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio, Campylobacter, Diarrhoeagenic E.coli Virus: Rotavirus, Norovirus Protozoa: Entamoeba histolytica
Causes of Salmonella? Salmonella typhi , Sal. paratyphi A, B & C, causes typhoid fever, life threatening.
Causes of Shigella? Bacillary dysentery: invade colonic epithelial cells cell death, damage the large intestine, bloody diarrhoea with mucus
Causes of Vibrio? Causes cholera, Cholera toxin (potent enterotoxin, symptoms: abdominal pain, rice watery diarrhoea, Sucrose fermenter yellow colonies on TCBS, GNR curved rods classical biotype highly pathogenic, extinguished, El Tor biotype less pathogenic
What is Vibrio parahaemolyticus? Halophilic GNR, Associated with seafood poisoning (GE) Non sucrose fermenter green colonies on TCBS
What is about campylobacter? Microaerophilic, GNR spiral or ‘S’ shaped, C. jejuni & C. coli,
