REMBRANDT portrait lighting pattern with an illuminated triangle under the eye on the less illuminated side of the face
SPLIT LIGHTING portrait lighting pattern with half of the subject's face lit, while the other half is left dark
BUTTERFLY (PARAMOUNT) portrait lighting pattern with a butterfly shaped shadow under the nose
LOOP portrait lighting pattern with a nose shadow that loops down at an angle onto the cheek
BROAD portrait lighting style with the side of the face toward the camera in the light
SHORT portrait lighting style with the side of the face toward the camera in more shadow
CATCHLIGHT a bright reflection in the eyes of the subject in a portrait
LIGHTING RATIO the comparison of the brightness of the key light to the fill light falling on the subject which determines the contrast
HIGH KEY an image that uses very bright lighting with minimal shadows used to suggest an upbeat, light and airy mood
LOW KEY an image that uses predominantly dark tones and colors which conveys dramatic or mysterious atmosphere and mood
