What does gothic font category look like? Black letters like on Christmas cards.
Which is easier to read on paper San Serif or Serif? Serif.
What are serifs? They are tails on edge/ends of letters.
What is the x height of a font? It is the height of a lower case x.
What is a type family? Reg. Italics, bold and bold italics, ect. of the font type. Ex. Ariel regular, arial italics, ariel bold, ariel bold italics, extended and condenced.
How do you measure font size of type? Top of the ascender to the bottom of the descender.
Where are the ascenders and descenders f letters? the part above and below the x height.
Where is the baseline of a letter? The line that all the letters rest on.
What is the Egyptian type classification and why is it called Egyptian? Slab Serif, popular font when Egyptian tombs were being discovered.
What do you use to measure type? points.
Where is the mean line in type anatomy? Top of x height.
Which is older Serif or San Serif? Serif.
How many points to an inch? 72ppi.
What is the difference between Serif and San Serif? The Serifs ('feet').
When do we use all caps? Hardly ever, to hard to read.
Are all x heights of all fonts the same size? No, they vary by fonts.
What did the first printed fonts look like? Gothic blackletter like handwriting of the scribes/monks of that time.
What is one theory of the origin of Serifs on type? Roman chisels and brush strokes on letters.
