Application Software Computer software created to allow the user to perform a specific job or task. Example: Microsoft Word
Central Processing Unit executes commands from a computer's hardware and software; the "brain" of a computer
Computer electronic device that is use to store, retrieve, and manipulate info electronically
File Mangement a program on a computer that allows the user to create, edit, view, print, rename, copy, or delete files, folders or an entire file system
Hard Drive a non-removable drive, which is fast and holds large amounts of data
Hardware parts of the computer you can physically touch
Input Device used to enter data into a computer
Logon the action of gaining access to a computer or a network by entering a username and password
Monitor output device that provides a visual representation of the information stored in the computer
Mouse hand-held device you use to move a pointer on the screen
Operating System system software that acts as a"go-between", allowing computer hardware and other software to communicate with each other
Output Device allows the user to view or listen to the data a computer processes such as monitor, printer, headphones, or speakers
Printer output device that allows the user to print a physical copy of the information shown on a monitor or screen
Peripheral additional hardware that isn't necessary for a computer function, but does enhance how the computer can be used
RAM Random Access Memory: temporary memory that stores data as long as the computer is turned on
ROM Read Only Memory: permanent memory that stores data even when the computer is turned off
Storage Device external hardware used to store and retrieve data such as a disk drive, CD/DVD drive, flash drive, or tape drive
System Software software responsible for the general operation of a computer system including the operation of hardware, running application software and file management
System Unit a computer case that contains the CPU, power supply, memory, and storage
URL internet address
Web Browser software used to display web pages on your computer monitor. Example: safari, google chrome, etc
Software collection of programs and other data input that tells the computer how to operate and how to manipulate data
