| Software piracy | The illegal copying, distribution or use of software |
| Intellectual property | Intangible property that is the result of creativity such as patents, copyrights. |
| Plagiarism | The practice of taking someone else’s work or idea and making it as one’s own |
| Shareware | Software that is available free of charge and often distributed informally for evaluation |
| Freeware | Software that is available free of charge |
| Public domain software | Software that has been placed in the public domain: there is absolutely no ownership such as copyright, trademark or patent. |
| Copyright law | A form of protection that protects “original works of authorship”. |
| Reverse Engineering | Taking apart an object to see how it works in order to duplicate or enhance the object. |
| Decompilation | A form of reverse engineering that does the opposite of what a compiler does. |
| Network use | a digital telecommunications network which allows nodes to share resources. |
