| Backstage view | A page that has Save As appearing when you click the file tab. |
| Block Style | A format that is used with Mixed punctuation. |
| Command | The name of orders used to complete tasks |
| Dialog box | A screen that displays additional options or information you can use to make a command |
| Dialog box launcher | A small arrow in the bottom right corner of the group |
| Groups | A tab that has command icons |
| I-beam | When you put your cursor near the insertion point it changes to an I. |
| Insertion point | A blinking point in the top left corner of the document where you begin creating text. |
| Menu | A page with a list of options. |
| Mixed punctuation | Punctuation that requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing. |
| Nonprinting characters | Symbols for certain formatting commands like paragraphs, indents and tabs, and spaces between words |
| Open punctuation | Requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing. |

| Tabs | Different separate boxes used for commands |
| Template | A master document with predefined page layout, fonts, margins, and styles that is used to create new documents with the same basic formatting. |
| Undo | Lets your cancel your last command |
| White space | The space between pages of the document. |
| Word Wrap | Automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin. |
