Introduction to Linguistics

What is Linguistics? The scientific study of natural human languages.
What is the purpose of the study of linguistics? To try to break down features and elements of language into observable data to answer questions about how we learn and know our languages.
What are the three core building blocks of linguistics? Structure, meaning, context.
What comprises the grammar of a specific language? Phonology, morphology, and Syntax.
What is the study of meaning referred to as? Semantics.
