Vocabulary to know

TermDefinition
Judge leads the courtroom, person of honor
Jury randomly selected people to serve in the courtroom
Court Reporter person who records all information and conversation during a case
Defendant person opposing the state or the complaintant
Defense attorney legal representative hired or appointed to defend the accused
Plaintiff person making an accusation against another
Prosecutor person appointed by the government to bring charges against the accused
Witness person who witnessed the situation or crime in the case
Character Witness person who can testify about the character of the defendant
Procedural Law law regarding how things are handled in the legal system
Judicial Branch the legal court system in the United States
Bailiff deputy/officer appointed to swear in witnesses and handle situations inside the courtroom
Complaint official document completed regarding the case at hand
Affadavit official document stating that something is true and honest
