| Typography | The style, arrangement, and, appearance of text |
| Typeface | The basic design of a character |
| Serif | Have strokes at the tips of the letters |
| Sans Serif | No strokes at the tips of the letters |
| Ornamental | Designed strictly to catch the eye |
| Script | Appear to have been written by hand, should never be eyed in all caps, conveys a formal mood |
| Symbol | Use decorative pictures or symbols instead of characters, allows the user to use a symbol to convey the message without importing a graphic |
| Font | The specific size, weight and style applies=d to a typeface |
| Monospaced | Each character takes up the same amount of horizontal space |
| Proportional | The amount of horizontal space each character takes up varies |
| Visual Hierarchy | The arrangement of elements |
| Text Size | A font that is typically measured by points |
| Text Style | The ways the authors uses words |
| Leading | Vertical spacing between lines of text |
| Kerning | Horizontal spacing between pairs of letters |
| Tracking | Horizontal spacing between all characters in a large block of text |
| Lines | Can be any size, shape, texture, pattern or direction |
| Positive Space | Length, width, and depth of objects |
| Negative Space | “white space” the distance between objects |
| Shapes | 2- dimensional space, enhances a publication |
| Geometric | Triangles, squares, circles |
| Organic | Natural or man- made shapes |
| Form | 3- dimensional space added to objects by the addition of shadows, tone, or color transitions |
| Mass | The size or amount of space taken up by an element, used for emphasis |
| Texture | Used to convey a sense of touch or feel |
| Color | Evokes emotion, sets tone or mood |
| Calming colors | Blue, green, violet |
| Exciting colors | Red, orange, yellow |
| Neutral colors | Beige, ivory, taupe, black, gray, white |
| Color Harmony | Create harmony by choosing pleasing color combinations from a color palette |
| Color palette | The range of colors |
| Complementary color scheme | Any 2 colors directly opposite each other on the color wheel |
| Analogous color scheme | Any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel |
| Monochromatic scheme | A single based hue and extended using its shades |
| Hue | The attribute of a color by virtue of which it is discernible as red, green, etc., |
| Value | The regard that something Is held to deserve, the importance, worth, or usefulness of something |
| Tint | A shade or variety of color |
| Shade | Comparative darkness and coolness caused by shelter from direct sunlight |
| Saturation | The state or process that occurs when no more of something can be absorbed, combined with, or added |
| Balance | An even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady |
| Symmetrical | Made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around an axis |
| Asymmetrical | Having parts that fail to correspond to one another in shape, size, or arrangement, lacking symmetry |
| Radial | Of or arranged like rays or the radii of a circle, diverging in lines from a common center |
| Contrast | The state of being strikingly different from something else, typically something in juxtaposition or close association |
| Unity/Harmony | The state of being united or joined as a whole |
| Scale/Proportion | A part, share, or number considered in comparative relation to a whole |
| Dominance/Emphasis | Power and influence |
| Grids | A framework of spaced bard that are parallel to cross each other |
| Rule of Thirds | Is applied by aligning a subject with the guide lines and their intersection points |
| Optical Center | A point on the axis of a lens that is so located that any ray of light passing through the lens suffers no net deviation |
| Z-pattern | Consists of rows of light content |
