Typography The style and appearance of printed matter
Typeface A particular design of type
Serif A slight projection finishing off a stroke of a letter in certain typefaces
Sans Serif Style of type without serifs
Ornamental Serving as decoration
Script Handwriting as distinct from print; written character appearance
Symbol A character that represents an object or function
Font A set of type of one face and size
Monospaced Each character occupies the same amount of horizontal space
Proportional Corresponding in size or amount to something else
Visual Hierarchy The order a user processes information on a page
Text Size Size of text measure in point
Text Style Collection of formatting instructions
Leading Amount of blank space between lines of print
Kerning Space between individual letter forms
Tracking Spacing between a range of characters
Lines A horizontal row of printed or written words
Positive Space Main focus of an image
Negative Space Background
Shapes Form/appearance/figure of an object

Dominance/Emphasis A visual focal point
Grids Even framework that are parallel and cross over each other that aid in symmetry and focal point
Rule of Thirds Horizons sit and a horizontal line dividing the lower third and the upper two thirds; aids in process of composing visual hierarchy
Optical Center Any ray of light that will not suffer deviation when passing through the lens
Z-pattern A row of light content, interspersed with large graphics or attention grabbing content
