A major point for mood disorders from lung and heart qi constraint and deficiency. Diffuses the lungs and assists descent of lug qi to activate the po, caution is advised in the use of this point in fragile patients since its effect can be quite powerful Lu 7. Lie que
Stabilizes the po. Used for lung deficiency patterns, where the patient appears overwhelmed by sadness and grief and doesn’t have enough qi to cope. The patients shoulders may be hunched, their body slumped forward and breathing shallow. Preferred to lu Lu 9 tai yuan
Calms the sheen and alleviates agitation, especially when combined with liv 3 and Du 20. A particularly good combination when depression is accompanied by muscle tension and stiffness and extreme irritability or barely repressed anger LI 4 he gu
Calms the shen and supports the yi. Used for all mood disorders from deficiency, damp or spleen dysfunction. ST 36. Zu san li
An important for depression from phlegm. Especially food when combined with Sp 3 and PC 6 for heaviness of mind and body, clouded thinking , lack of clarity and somnolence characteristic of phlegm conditions St 40. Feng long

Indicated for depression with disturbing nightmares and somnolence, especially when damp is a factor. Sp 5. Shang qiu

This point ha a good effect on calming the Shen and Hun alleviating qi constraint and elevating the mood, especially when combined with sSJ 5. Wesd for depression with insomnia, anxiety and irritability. As the ‘sea of marrow’ it can help in clarifyin GB 39. Xuan zhong

Stabilizes the Zhi. Used for deficiency patterns of depression, particularly when the kidneys are weak or cold usually treated with moxa. Ren 6. Qi hai

Not specifically indicated for depression, but one that is useful in lung patterns to assist proper movement and descent of lung qi. Select on the basis of tenderness Ren 17. Shan zhong

For lung weakness patterns with profound sadness and grief. Du 14. Da zhui
For all patterns of depression regardless of whether from stagnation or deficiency. Elevates mood and has a strong calming effect. Specifically indicated for sadness, weeping and a lack of will to live, inability to choose words, poor memory and inabiltiy Du 20. Bai hui
For depression with anxiety and insomnia. Du 24. Shen ting
Good as a general calming point for depression with anxiety and agitation. Yin tang
