What is IT?

1st Unit to Coding

QuestionAnswer
Information Technology? Is a system concerned with the processing, storage, and transfer of information.
Data? Is facts waiting to be analyzed for information.
Information? Is organized data from which conclusions and answers can be drawn by words, numbers, pictures, sounds, video, graphs.
Knowledge? Is what you learn when you analyze information from different data sources.
IT system? Is a combination of hardware, software, databases, networking, telecommunications, and procedures.
Types of IT systems? Computer, PDA, Grocery Self-Checkout, and a Robot that performs or collects data.
What do computers run on and when are electric circuits are open or closed? They run on electricity and 0 means on and 1 means off.
ASCII? American Standard Code for Information Interchange.
How many characters are in ASCII? 128 till it later on expanded to 256.
Binary? Counting with only 2 digits. 0-1.
Decimal? Counting with only 10 digits. 0-9.
Hexadecimal? Counting with 16 digits. 0-9 and A-F.
Systems Development Life Cycle? Planning, analysis, design, coding, testing, and maintenance.
How to analyze the problem? First understand the problem or opportunity, then define the project scope and constraints, next perform fact finding by analyzing organization charts.
