| Limerick | A funny poem with exactly 5 lines |
| Narrative Poem | A poem that tells a story and has a plot |
| Free Verse | A poem that does not have any rules- it has no rhythm or rhyme |
| Haiku | A three line poem- first and last lines have 5 syllables, second and last line has 7 syllables |
| Concrete Poem | A poem that takes the shape of its subject |
| Lyrical Poetry | A poem that is very emotional or moody- It is usually set to music |
| Acrostic Poem | A poem where the first letters in each line spell out the topic |
| Diamante Poem | A poem with 7 lines that is shaped like a diamond |
| Couplet | Two consecutive lines in a poem that rhyme |
| Figurative Language | Expressions with meanings different from the literal- often used in poetry |
