Poetry

These terms are poetry characteristics and devices.

assonance resemblance of sounds, also called vowel rhyme
consonance repetition of consonant sounds
enjambment continuing a sentence without pausing
ballads a poem or song telling a story in short stanzas
odes a lyric poem for a specific subject
lyric poetry poetry that expresses personal thoughts, feelings, emotions
alliteration using words with the same sound at the beginning like "
blank verse verse without rhyme
haiku Japanese poem with seventeen syllables (in three lines of five, seven, and five)
sonnets poetry with fourteen lines using any of a number of formal rhyme schemes
