10 basic computer terms

Internet Alternatively referred to as the net or web - it was initially developed to aid in the progress of computing technology by linking all the best academic computer centers.

HTML HyperText Markup Language
Browser is a software program created as a simplified means to present and explore content on the World Wide Web - including pictures, videos, and web pages, connected using hyperlinks and classified with Uniform Recourse Identifiers (URLs).
Byte data equal to either seven or eight bits depending if it needs error correction (parity) - the smallest measurement size listed in operating systems.
Cookie a small amount of text-only data saved on your computer while you browse a certain website.
Reboot the process of restarting a working computer using hardware (e.g. a power button) instead of software. - sometimes necessary after installing a software program
Firewall a software utility or hardware device that acts as a filter for data entering or leaving a network or computer.
Spam slang commonly used to describe junk e-mail on the Internet.
Modem a hardware device that connects a computer or router to a broadband network.
