| netiquette | a code, or set of rules, of good behavior on the Internet |
| piracy | the act of installing and using commercial software without paying for the program |
| freeware | the moral principles, policies, and values that govern the way businesses and individuals engage in business activity |
| encryption | the process of converting data or files into a custom code to stop 3rd parties from accessing them |
| copyright | a legal means of protecting an author's work; a type of intellectual property that provides exclusive publication, distribution, and usage rights for the author |
| copyright infringement | a violation of an individual or organization's copyright; the unauthorized use of protected material, such as text, photos, videos, music, software, and other original content |
| public domain | a legal term that describes a work or product that is not protected by copyright because the protection has 1) expired, 2) been released by the author, or 3) never existed in the first place |
| fair use | the defensive doctrine that brief excerpts of copyright material may, under certain circumstances, be quoted verbatim for the purpose of news reporting, teaching, and/or research, without the need for permission from or payment to the copyright holder |
| phishing | a type of digital scam designed to obtain personal information like usernames, passwords, and bank account information through deceptive means. |
| catfishing | Pretending to be someone else by using photos of another person or lying about your identity to others​ |
| cyberbullying | Bullying that takes place online or through digital means |
| grooming | The process of preparing or training someone for something |
