Term | Definition |

Alignment | The position of text between margins. |
Bullet | Any small character that appears before an item in a list. |
Center | To position test so that it is centered between the right and left margins. |
First-line Indent | A description of the indent in a paragraph when only the first line of test in the paragraph is indented. |
Hanging Indent | A description of the indent in a paragraph when the first line of text is not indented but all of the following in the paragraph are. |
Indent | The space between text and the margin. |
Inside margin | The right margin on a left page and the left margin on the right page when a document is set up with mirrored margins. Also called gutter margins. |
Justify | To format a paragraph so the text is distributed evenly across the page between the left and right margins and both the left and right edges of the paragraph are aligned at the margins. |
Leader | A solid, dotted, or dashed line that fills the blank space before a tab stop. |
Left-align | To position text so that it is aligned along the left margin. |
Margin | Blank space around the top, bottom, and sides of a page. |
Mirrored margins | Margins on left and right pages that are identical |
Multilevel lists | A list with two or more levels of bullets or numbering. Also called outline numbered list. |
Negative Indent | a description of an indent in a paragraph in which the left indent marker is past the left margin. Also called out dent. |

Right-align | To position text so that it is aligned along the Right margin. |

Vertical Alignment | The position of text on a page between the top and bottom margins. |
