| Term | Definition |

| Title Bar | Displays the file name of the document |
| Cursor | An on-screen blinking character that shows where the next character will appear |
| Orientation | The direction in which you can print on a page |
| Portrait | Height is greater than the width (default orientation) |
| Landscape | Width is greater than the height |
| Margin | The blank space at the top, bottom, left, and right of a document where you cannot type |
| Header | allows you to type above the top margin |
| Footer | allows you to type below the bottom margin |
| Line Spacing | The spacing between lines of text in a document |
| Single Space | Press Enter 1 time leaving no blank lines |
| Double Space | Press Enter 2 times leaving 1 blank line |
| Quadruple Space | Press Enter 4 times leaving 3 blank lines |
| Word Wrap | the automatic wrapping of text from the end of one line to the beginning of the next line without having to press the Enter key |
| Horizontal Centering | Text is aligned between the left and right margins |
| Vertical Centering | Text is aligned between the top and bottom margins |
| Font | The specific design for a collection of letters, numbers, and symbols |
| Bullets and Numbering | used to arrange items in a list with each item beginning with a bullet or number |
| Cut | Used to remove text or graphics from the current location in a document |
| Copy | Allows text or graphics to be copied to another location in a document |
| Clipboard | Temporary storage location for text or graphics that have been cut or copied |
| Paste | Places text or graphics that have been cut or copied in a new location within a document |
| Block Style | Paragraph format used where no lines of text are indented; used for emails and letters |
| Indented | Paragraph format used where only the first line of text in a paragraph is indented; used for reports |
| Hanging Indent | Paragraph formed used where all lines of text except for the first are indented; used for bibliographies and sources in a report |
| Tab | Operational key used to indent paragraphs |
| Thesaurus | Feature that is used to find synonyms |
| Spell Check | Feature that is used to find and correct misspelled words |
| Formatting | Changes made to font (color, underline, bold, italics, etc.) |
| Clipboard | The temporary storage location for text or graphics that have been cut or copied |
| Alignment | The way multiple lines of text line up along the left, right, or both margins. |
| Center Align | The alignment of text between both margins, leaving a jagged left and right margin. |
| Editing | The process of updating a document to make changes, correct errors, and make it visually appealing. |
| Function Keys | Allow you to quickly access frequently used functions. |
| Grammar Check | The word processing feature that checks selected words in a document for grammatical errors. |
| Justified | The alignment of text along the left and right margin, leaving no jagged edges. |
| Left Align | The alignment of text along the left margin, leaving a jagged right margin. |
| Menu Bar | Provides you with a menu of options to use when creating a document. |
| Operational Keys | Allow you to operate the computer without a mouse. |
| Right Align | The alignment of text along the right margin, leaving a jagged left margin. |
| Scroll Bars | Allow you to scroll through a document that is too big to fit on one page. |
| Tool Bars | Provide you with buttons that allow you to access frequently used commands. |
| Triple Space | When 2 blank lines are left between lines of text; striking the Enter key 3 times. |
