What are the 3 Meninges of the Brain? Dura Mater, Arachnoid Mater, Pia Mater
Where is the Dura Mater Located? Surrounds the brain and consists of an outer layer firmly bound to the inside of the skull
Where is the Arachnoid Mater? membrane attached to the Dura Mater
Where is the Pia Mater? Tightly wrapped around the brain and spinal cord
Name the 3 Spaces in the Brain? Epidural, Subdural, Subarachnoid
The Epidural is made up of what? Fat and connective tissue
The Subdural Space contains what? interstitial fluid
The Subarachnoid Space contains what? CSF
What does the blood-brain barrier do? Controls which molecules in the blood stream will enter the CNS
What molecules can cross the blood brain barrier? Glucose, Ions, Amino Acids, and lipid soluble substances Oxygen, alcohol, anesthetics
What can cause a break down in the blood brain barrier? Trauma, toxins, and inflammation
What percent of drugs cannot cross the blood Brain brarrier? 98%
