| Cardiovascular | Pertaining to the heart and blood vessels. |
| Ischemia | Deficiency in blood supply due to constriction or obstruction of blood vessels. |
| Myocarditis | Inflammation of the myocardium |
| Carditis | Inflammation of the heart |
| Angiosclerosis | Hardening of the blood vessel |
| Angionecrosis | Necrosis/death/of a blood vessel |
| Tachycardia | Abnormally fast heartbeat |
| Bradycardia | Abnormally slow heartbeat |
| Palpitation | Pounding or racing heart w/o without irregularity |
| Angiitis | Inflammation of a blood or lymph vessel |
| Phlebitis | Inflammation of a vein |
| Polyarteritis | Inflammation of more than one artery |
| Valvuloplasty | Surgical repair of a heart valve |
| Arteriectomy | Surgical removal of part of an artery |
| Endocarditis | Inflammation of the endocardium (inner, inside layer of the heart) |
| Cardiomegaly | Abnormal enlargement of the heart |
| Echocardiography | A diagnostic procedure using ultrasound to evaluate structure and function of the heart. (ECG) |
| Electrocardiograph | A device used to record electrical activities of the heart. |
| Pericardium | Multilayered sac enclosing the heart |
| Pericarditis | Inflammation of the pericardium |
| Atherosclerosis | Hardening and narrowing of the arteries due to buildup of cholesterol plaques. |
| Atheroma | Tumor/plaque within the arterial wall |
| Arrhythmia/Dysrhythmia | Irregularity or the loss of heart rhythm |
| Arteriomalacia | Softening of the wall of the artery |
| Cardiotomy | A surgical incision into the heart |
| Cardiopathy | Any disease of the heart |
| Electrocardiogram | A record of electrical activity of the heart (EKG) |
| Acardia | Congenital abnormalitiy, without a heart |
| Angiomegaly | Enlargement of a blood vessel |
| Systole | the phase of the heartbeat when the heart muscle contracts and pumps blood from the chambers into the arteries. |
| Diastole | The phase of the heartbeat when the heart muscle relaxes and allows the chambers to fill with blood. |
| Heart murmur | An abnormal sound when listening to the heart or large blood vessels. |
| Cardiac Arrest | An event in which the heart abruptly stops or develops a very abnormal arrhythmia that prevents it from pumping blood. |
| Heart Failure | A chronic condition in which the heart is unable to pump out all of the blood that it receives. |
