Digital Citizenship

Terminology that will help with becoming a better digital citizen.

TermDefinition
Citizenship Being a member of and supporting your community and country. Citizens have certain rights and responsibilities.
Disclosure Making new or formerly secret information known.
Flaming A tirade (verbal attack) conducted by the use of an online medium (e.g. text, email, twitter, Facebook, etc.).
Meta-information (or) Metadata Information about information. For example: the title, location, and subject that gives insight into what a document is about.
Digital Community An online community in which members interact via the internet.
Interlational Communication Relationships developed as a result of the unique communication that can take place using a digital medium.
Communication Venue The place in which an online community chooses to engage (e.g. chat room, email, twitter, face book, discussion board, etc.)
Infoshpere The environment of information contained in cyberspace.
Subterranean Cyberculture A person's online activity or community that is kept secret from certain people they know in real life.
Digital Proximity The choice of using either a private or a public medium for online communication.
