TermDefinition
x-axis the principal or horizontal axis of a system of coordinates, points along which have a value of zero for all other coordinates.
y-axis the secondary or vertical axis of a system of coordinates, points along which have a value of zero for all other coordinates.
category axis Related data points that are plotted in a chart. Each data series in a chart has a unique color or pattern and is represented in the chart legend. You can plot one or more data series in a chart. Pie charts have only one data series.
value axis the class which displays value axis for the chart. The chart can have any number of value axes. For Serial chart one value axis is created automatically. For XY Chart two value axes (horizontal and vertical) are created automatically.
plot area a plan made in secret by a group of people to do something illegal or harmful.
tick marks another term for check mark.
grid lines are the light gray lines that divide each of the cells, rows, and columns in a spreadsheet. In the picture below, is an example of gridlines in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
data point an identifiable element in a data set.
data marker the column, dot, pie slice, or other symbol in the chart that represents that value in the chart. For example, in a line graph, each point on the line is a data marker representing a single data value located in a worksheet cell.
data series A row or column of numbers that are plotted in a chart is called a data series. You can plot one or more data series in a chart. To create a column chart, execute the following steps.
legend a traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but unauthenticated.
sizing handles a tool found in a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that allows users to resize an object.
chart sheet a Microsoft Excel worksheet that is dedicated to one chart.
embedded chart a text file with the extension .css, for example the Style Sheet for this course is called tutorial.css, and is "linked" to from all the course's various Web pages.
object a material thing that can be seen and touched.
major grid lines the grid lines that represent the values at the tick marks on the value axis
minor gridlines the grid lines that represent the values between the tick marks on the value axis
text annotations a critical or explanatory note or body of notes added to a text. the act of annotating. note (def 1).
exploding burst or shatter violently and noisily as a result of rapid combustion, decomposition, excessive internal pressure, or other process, typically scattering fragments widely.
