Unit D Vocabulary
| X- axis | The horizontal axis in a chart, also called category axis. |
| Y- axis | The vertical axis in a chart, also called value axis. |
| Category axis | The horizontal axis in a chart, usually containing the names of data categories. |
| Value axis | In chart, the axis that contains numerical values. |
| Plot area | In a chart, the area inside the horizontal and vertical axes. |
| Tick marks | Notations of a scale of measure on a chart axis. |
| Gridlines | Evenly spaced horizontal and/or vertical lines used in a worksheet or chart to make it easier to read. |
| Data point | Individual piece of data plotted in a chart. |
| Data marker | A graphical representation of a data point, such as a bar column. |
| Data series | The selected range in a worksheet whose related data points Excel converts into a chart. |
| Legend | In a chart, information that identifies how data is represented by colors or patterns. |
| Sizing handles | The small circles and squares that appear around a selected object, such as graphic, chart, or control. |
| Embedded chart | A chart displayed as an object in a worksheet. |
| Chart sheet | A separate sheet in a workbook that contains only a chart, which is linked to the workbook data. |
| Object | A table, query, form, report, macro, or module in a database. |
| Major gridlines | In a chart, the gridlines that represent the values at the tick marks on the value axis. |
| Minor gridlines | In a chart, the gridlines that represents the values between the tick marks on the values axis. |
| Text annotations | Labels added to a chart to draw attention to or describe a particular area. |
| Exploding | Visually pulling a slice of pie chart away from the whole pie chart in order to add emphasis to the pie slice. |
