x-axis the principal or horizontal axis of a system of coordinates, points along which have a value of zero for all other coordinates.
y-axis the secondary or vertical axis of a system of coordinates, points along which have a value of zero for all other coordinates
category axis When you create a chart from worksheet data that uses dates, and the dates are plotted along the horizontal
value axis Related data points that are plotted in a chart. Each data series in a chart has a unique color or pattern and is represented in the chart legend
plot area The plot area is surrounded by the chart area. The chart area on a 2-D chart contains the axes, the chart title, the axis titles, and the legend
tick marks A check mark, checkmark or tick is a mark (✓, ✔, etc.) used (primarily in the English speaking world) to indicate the concept
gridlines Gridlines are the faint lines that appear around cells to distinguish them on the worksheet.
data point an identifiable element in a data set.
data marker A data marker is the column, dot, pie slice, or other symbol in the chart that represents that value in the chart.
data series A row or column of numbers that are plotted in a chart is called a data series.
legend In a chart or graph in spreadsheet programs such as Excel, the legend is most often located on the right hand side of the chart or graph and can sometimes be surrounded by a border.

chart sheet A chart sheet is a Microsoft Excel worksheet that is dedicated to one chart. When a user creates a chart in Excel
embedded chart An embedded chart is a chart that is placed on a worksheet as opposed to on a separate chart sheet when using a spreadsheet software package.
