| category axis | horizontal axis because often contains the names of data groups |
| value axis | vertical axis because often contains numerical values |
| plot area | the area inside the horizontal and vertical axis |
| tick marks | notations of a scale of measure on a chart axis |
| gridlines | evenly spaced horizontal and/or vertical lines used in a worksheet or chart to make it easier to read |
| data point | each value in acell you select for your chart |
| data marker | visually represents each data point |
| data series | a collection of related data points |
| legend | is included to make it easy to identify them |
| sizing handles | the small series if dots at the corners and sides of the charts border |
| chart sheet | is a sheet in a workbook that contains only a chart that is linked to the workbook data |
| embedded chart | a chart displays as an object in a worksheet |
| object | independent element on a worksheet |
| major gridlines | represents the values at the values axis tick marks |
| minor gridlines | represents the valued between the tick marks |
| text annotations | labels added to a chart to draw attention to or describe a particular area |
| exploding | visually pulling a slice of a pie chart away from the whole pie chart in order to add emphasis to the pie slice |
