Description of Basic Technology Terminology for IST 201

TermDefinition
CPU The central processing unit; controls the computer
Hardware The physical parts of the computer
Monitor The physical device which visually displays the information
Browser A program used to navigate the World Wide Web. i.e. Google Chrome or Internet Explorer
Application A program in which you do work
Memory The temporary holding area where data is stored
Software Files that contain instructions for the computer
Upload To send a file from one computer to another through a network
Paste To insert text or material from the clipboard
Virus Computer code that has been written to corrupt the computer's normal functioning
