| Term | Definition |

| BPS | Abbreviation of bits per second, the standard measure of data transmission speeds |
| Browser | a software application used to locate, retrieve and display content on the World Wide Web, including Web pages, images, video and other files |
| GIF | graphics interchangeformat, - it is limited to 256 colors, it is more effective for scanned images such as illustrations rather than color photos |
| Gigabyte | One gigabyte is equal to 1,024 megabytes. Gigabyte is often abbreviated as G or GB |
| Hypertext | A special type of database system, invented by Ted Nelson in the 1960s, in which objects (text, pictures, music, programs, and so on) can be creatively linked to each other |
| JavaScript | A scripting language developed by Netscape to enable Web authors to design interactive sites |
| JPEG | Joint Photographic Experts Group, and pronounced jay-peg. JPEG is a lossy compression technique for color images |
| Data Compression | Storing data in a format that requires less space than usual |
| Tethering | Tethering enables your cellular telephone or similar Internet-enabled mobile device to connect other devices such as netbooks, laptops or PDAs to the Internet |
