| Visual Hierarchy | An arrangement of text in a graduated series to help readers scan and know where to enter and exit the text |
| Target Audience | A particular group of people, identified as the intended recipient of an advertisement |
| Kerning | The horizontal spacing between all the characters in a large block of text |
| Positive Space | The length, width, and depth of objects |
| Negative Space | The distance between objects that gives a design breathing room; "white space" |
| Nameplate | A banner on the front of a document that identifies the publication and usually includes the name of the publication, logo, and/or motto |
| Infographic | A graphical representation of information or data intended to present complex information quickly and clearly |
| Jumpline | The line at the end of a continuing article that tells the reader which page to refer to for the rest of the article |
| Compression | How an image is saved in order to reduce the file size |
| Raster Graphics | Images composed of grids and pixels that have a fixed resolution |
| Vector Graphics | Composed of mathematical formulas that define lines, shapes and curves that can be layered and combined to create images |
| Meta Graphics | Graphic that can contain both vector and raster data |
| Artboard | The area of the illustration that contains the printable part of your work |
| Anchor Point | Basic components of paths; appears at the start and end of every path or where it changes directions |
| Beizer | A curved segment of a path that uses handles to control the shape of the curve |
| Sampling | Process used to convert analog sound waves into digital data to be used by computers |
| Uniform Resource Locator | The address used for locating a document on the web |
| Hypertext Transport Protocol | The underlying protocol for how content is communicated on the web |
| Domain Name System | Internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses (DNS) |
| Open Standard | A standard that is publicly available and has various rights to use associated with it |
