Object Oriented Programming terms Classes and Objects
Term | Definition |

Getter | A method that returns the value of a private member variable. |
Setter | A method that sets the value of a private member variable. |
Return Type | The type of data returned by a method. |
Parameter | A special kind of variable used in a method to refer to one of the pieces of data provided as input to the method. |
Operation | A process executed by a program. |
Void | The type for the result of a function that returns normally but does not provide a result value to its caller. |
Static | A computer programming mechanism in which the method being called upon an object is determined at compile time. |
Constructor | A special type of method called to create an object. |
This (keyword) | A reference variable that refers to the current object. |
Instance Variable | A variable defined in a class for which each instantiated object of the class has a separate copy. |
Method Variable | A variable created by a method which exists only during the execution of the method. |
Method Call | The process of invoking a method for execution. |
Public Method | A variable or function that can be accessed by any other object. |
Calling Method | The method that calls another method. |
Parameter List | A special kind of variable used in a method to refer to one of the pieces of data provided as input to the method. |
