| workbook | a file extension |
| templates | redesigned,format files to create a new worksheet quickly |
| name box | displays the active cell address |
| formula bar | allows you to enter or edit data in the worksheet |
| cell | the intersection of a column and a row |
| cell address | is identified by the coordinates of the intersection column and row |
| cell pointer | is a dark rectangle that outlines the cell you are working on |
| active cell | the highlighted cell that is being used |
| sheet tabs | below the worksheet grid let you switch form sheet to sheet in a workbook |
| status bar | is located at the bottom of the Excel window |
| mode indicator | in the lower left corner of the status bar provides additional information about certain task |
| range | a selection of two or more cells |
| formula | is an equation in a worksheet |
| labels | most often refers to a text entry such as a heading used to identify a column of data |
| values | formulas in cells or charts |
| functions | a preset formula |
| arguments | are the values that functions use to perform calculations. |
| formula prefix | allow you to quickly make calculations and get totals of multiple cells, rows, or columns in a spreadshee |
| calculation operators | specifies the type of calculation that you want to perform on the elements of a formula, like addition, subtraction, multiplication or division |
| comparison operators | are symbols used in formulas to specify the type of calculation that is to be carried |
| reference operators | is the Range operator, which produces one reference to all the cells between two cells references, including the cells written in the reference text |
