Keyboarding Definitions and Terms
Term | Definition |

Alignment | The horizontal positioning of text. |
Bold | A print enhancement used to make words appear darker than other text and add emphasis. |
Bullets/Numbering | Used to arrange items in a list beginning with a bullet or number. |
Cut/Copy/Paste | A feature that allows you to move or copy text from one place to another. |
Font size | Determines the height of characters in units called points. |
Font Style | The type of character format that determines the look or style of each character. |
Font Type | The design and appearance of printed characters. |
Footers | Text printed at the bottom of the page. |
Headers | Text printed at the top of the page. |
Indentations | To move one or more lines inward from the margins. |
Insertion Mode | An input mode where existing text moves to the right as new text is added. |
Italics | Text that is slanted to the right. |
Landscape Orientation | Page orientation in which text prints across the wider part of the page. |
Line Spacing | The vertical difference between two lines of type. |
Margins | Blank space between the edge of the paper and printed text. |
Page Numbering | The method of arranging pages in numerical order. |
Portrait Orientation | Page orientation where text prints across the narrower part of the page. |

Reveal/Show Codes | Shows non-printing or formatting characters. |
Spell Check | Used to check the spelling of a document after keying. |
Tab Settings | Allows you to line up text at a certain point. |
Typeover Mode | Replaces existing text with new text as it is keyed. |
Underline | A feature that underlines text as it is keyed. |
