Term | Definition |

Margins | Blank area between edge of text and edge of paper |
Portrait Orientation | Page is taller than wide |
Landscape Orientation | Page is wider than tall |
Gutter | Adds extra space to left, top, or inside margin to allow for binding |
Mirror Margins | Used in a document with facing pages, such as a magazine, where the margins on the left of the document are a mirror image of the margins on the right page. |
Section | Portion of a document that is separated from the rest of the document by section breaks |
Section Breaks | formatting marks you insert in a document to show end of page |
Automatic Page Break | When you reach the end of the page it allows you to continue to type on next apage |
Manual Page Break | You insert manual page breaks where you know you want to begin a new report |
Field | A code that serves as a placeholder for data that changes in a document, such as a page number or the current date |
Quick Parts | Items you can insert include fields, such as for the current date or the total number of pages in a document; document property information, such as the author and title of a document; and building blocks. |
Header | Text or graphic that appears at the tip of every page of a document |
Footer | Text or graphics that appears at the bottom of every page |
Building Blocks | Reusable pieces of formatted content or document parts, including header and footer, page number, and text boxes, that are stored in galleries. |
Table | Grid of columns and rows that you can fill with text and graphics |
Cell | The box formed by the intersection of a column and a row |
Borders | Lines that divide the columns and rows of a table and help you see the grid-like structure of the table |
Footnote | Explanatory note that consists of two linked parts: the note reference mark that appears next to text to indicate that additional information. At the end of each page |
Endnote | Explanatory note that consists of two linked parts: the note reference mark that appears next to text to indicate that additional information. At the end of the document |
Citation | A parenthetical reference in the document text that gives credit to the source for a quotation or other information used in a document |
Bibliography | List of sources that you used in creating the document |
