Formatting Text
Term | Definition |

font | a complete set of characters with the same typeface or design. |
font size | Another way to change the appearance of text is to increase or decrease its font size |
point | a 1/72 of an inch |
theme | a related set of fonts, colors, styles, and effect that is applied to an entire document give it a cohesive appearance. |
Drop Cap | a large initial capital letter, often used to set off the first paragraph of an article. |
bold | a button in the font group to make text darker by applying bold |
italic | a slanted text |
Formatted painter | a powerful Word feature that allows you to copy all the format settings applied to selected text to other text that you want to format the same way. |
quick styles | an easier, faster, way to make it attractive and readable |
styles | a set of formats, such as fonts, font size, and paragraph alignment, that are named and stored together |
left aligned | text are flush with the left margin and has ragged right edge. |
right aligned | text are flush with the right margin and has ragged left edge. |
Justify | you can justify a paragraph so that both the left and right edge of the paragraph are flush with the left and right margins |
Center | make a paragraph so that is it positioned evenly between the left and right margins |
Tab stop | a point on the horizontal ruler that indicates the location at which to align text. |
indent | you move its edge in from the left or right margin |
Indent markers | a markers on the horizontal ruler indicate the indent settings for the paragraph in which the insertion point is located. |
bullet | a bullet is a character, often a small circle, that appears before items in a list to add empahsis |
border | lines you add above, below, to the side, or around words or paragraphs. |
shading | a color or pattern you apply behind words or paragraphs to make them stand out on a page. |
clipart | a collection of graphic images that you can insert into a document. |
clip organizer | where Clip art images are stored in |
clips | a media files such as graphic, photographs, sound, movies, and animations |
sizing handles | a tab contains command used to adjust, enhance, arrange, and size graphics. |
inline paragraph | a part of the line of text in which it was inserted. |
floating graphic | To move graphic independently of text. |
