TermDefinition
Byte A unit used to measure storage capacity. One byte equals one character.
Communications Technology Technology that makes communication easier and more efficient.
Current File The file that is currently open and active. Actions and commands affect the current file.
Folder A location on a disk where you can store files.
Hardwire Computers, printers, and other devices.
Hyperlink Text or graphics that are linked to another location. (Link)
Icon A picture used to identify an element onscreen, such as a toolbar button.
Information Technology The use of computers to collect, store, and distribute information.
Insertion Point The flashing vertical line that indicates where typed text will display.
Library In Microsoft Windows 7 and above, a location where you can view files and folders that are actually stored in other locations on your computer systems.
Menu A list of commands or choices,
Mouse A device that allows you to select items onscreen by pointing at them with the mouse pointer.
Mouse Pad A smooth, cushioned surface on which you slide a mouse.
Mouse Pointer A marker on your computer screen that shows you where the next moue action will occur.
Object Icon, menu, or other item that is part of an onscreen interface.
Random Access Memory Temporary memory a computer uses to store information while it is processing.
Read-Only Memory Fixed memory stored on chip in a computer that provides startup and other systems instructions.
Scanner A device that converts printed documents into digital file formats.
Scroll To page through a document in order to view contents that is not currently displayed.
Scroll Wheel A wheel on some mouse devices used to navigate through a document onscreen.
Software Programs that provide the instructions for a computer or other hardware device.
Software Suite A group of software programs sold as a single unit. Usually the programs have common features that make it easy to integrate and share data.
Storage A computer device or component used to store data such as programs and files.
Stylus Pen A pen shaped device used to interact with a touch screen.
Subfolder A folder stored within another folder.
Template A document that contains formatting, styles, and sample text that you can use to create new documents.
Window The area onscreen where a program or document is displayed.
