Understanding Essential Computer Concepts

TermDefinition
netbook A type of sub-notebook computer that is primarily designed to allow users to access the internet and check e-mail.
commands An instruction to preform a task.
byte A series of eight bytes.
RAM Temporarily holds data and programs while computer is on.
hard disk Magnetic storage media that is usually sealed in a case inside the computer.
expansion slot An electrical connector in the motherboard into which a card is plugged.
server A computer on a network that acts as the central storage location for programs and provides mass storage for most of the data used on network
spyware Software that allocates resources, manages storage space, maintains security , and controls I/0
operating system A program that tracks a users internet usage without the users permission.
database A collection of info stored on one or more computers organized in a uniform format of records and fields.
