online gambling Gambling in which wagers are placed over the Internet.
cyberbullying Bullying that occurs using Internet applications such as email or social media.
Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) A law passed by Congress in 2000 that requires public schools and libraries to install Internet filtering software on their computers.
filtering program Software that can prevent access to sites, keep track of sites visited, limit connection time, record keystrokes, prevent downloading, and allow users to view only those sites that have been accessed.
acceptable use policy (AUP) A policy adopted by businesses and schools to guide users and administrators about allowable Internet use.
online predator An individual (often a child molester) who uses the Internet to talk young people into meeting, exchanging photos, and so forth.
digital divide The gap between those who have access to computers and the Internet and those who do not.
