Energy Systems

ATP+PC, Lactic Acid (Anaerobic) and Aerobic

Name the three energy systems? Aerobic system, Lactic Acid system, ATP-PC system
How long does the ATP-PC system last? Up to 10 seconds
How long does the Lactic Acid system last? From 10 seconds to 2 minutes
How long does the Aerobic system last? From 2 minutes, lasting hours. (As long as there is sufficient oxygen to meet demand).
What fuel does the Aerobic energy system use? Carbohydrates, Fats and as a last resort Proteins from muscles.
What activity or event would you use the ATP-PC system? e.g. 100m Sprint. (Very high intensity)
What activity or event would you use the LA system? e.g. 400m Sprint. (High intensity)
What activity or event would you use the Aerobic system? Walking, Jogging, Cycling, Long distance events. (Low intensity)
What is the by-product of the LA system? Lactic Acid
Which energy systems do not require oxygen? Lactic Acid and ATP-PC (the anaerobic systems)
Which energy system requires oxygen? Aerobic system
What is the by-product of the Aerobic system? No fatiguing by-products
What fuel does the Lactic Acid system use? Carbohydrates
