carpal tunnel syndrome A form of repeti- tive stress injury. The tunnel passing through the wrist becomes swollen, caus- ing pressure on a nearby nerve. It can lead to pain, tingling, and numbness in the hands and wrists.
chat room A location on the Internet or other online community where people use their keyboards to send messages back and forth.
ergonomics The scientific study of how people can use things (such as computer equipment) efficiently and safely.
repetitive stress injury Damage caused by performing the same action (such as pressing keys on a keyboard) repeatedly for long periods of time.
