NEWTON'S LAWS IG
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| balanced forces | two or more forces whose effects cancel each other out and do not change the motion of an object. |
| center of mass | point in a object that moves as if all of the objects mass were concentrated at the point |
| force | a push or pull |
| friction | force that acts to oppose sliding between two surfaces that are touching. |
| net force | a combination of all forces acting on an object |
| newtons's 1st law of motion | IF THE NET FORCE acting on on an object is zero, the object will remain at rest or move in a straight line with a constant speed |
| newtons's 2nd law of motion | an object acted upon by a net for will accelerate in the same direction of the force and the acceleration equals the net force divided by the objects mass, |
| newtons's 3rd law of motion | states that the force always acts equal but opposite pairs |
| unbalanced forces | two or more forces acting on an object that do not cancel, and cause the object to accelerate |
| weight | gravitational force between an object and the earth. |
