| Term | Definition |

| Font | A specific size, weight, and style applied to a character(letter, number, symbol) |
| Font style | The slant and weight of a charcter, such as a bold or italic |
| Font Family | A group of similarly formatted typefaces like Arial bold, Arial Narrow, and Arial Rounded |
| Typeface | The basic design of a charcter |
| Monospeed | All characters have the same space like a typewriter |
| Proportional | All characters are based are based on the character |
| Leading | Vertical line spacing |
| Kerning | Horizontal line spacing |
| Tracking | Horizontal spacing between all characters |
| Serif fonts | Used in the body of a book |
| Sans serif fonts | Does not have tips or serifs |
| ornamental fonts | Are not used often |
| Script fonts | Looks like they were written by hand |
| Symbol | Used for characters |
| Visual Hierarchy | A arrangement of text in a graduated series |
| Target Audience | A particular group |
