Internet Marketing

TermDefinition
app Small, self-contained program downloaded onto a smartphone or tablet that makes online usage easier and simpler than accessing websites using URLs and passwords.
blog A website with regular entries, or posts; the word comes from weblog. Readers can comment on blogs, which provides a level of interactivity.
follow On Twitter, following someone means choosing to receive their tweets.
interactivity A feature of communication technology that allows the viewer to interact with or engage other people—the site sponsors or other guests on the site. Interactivity is one of the key features of social media or Web 2.0.
microblog A blog site that restricts posts to a limited number of characters; Twitter is the best-known microblog site.
multimedia The combined use of several different media for the purpose of communicating. For example, text is a medium, still images are a medium, video is a medium, and sound is a medium. Sites like Pinterest, Instagram, Flickr, and YouTube include text as well as
profile Information users share about themselves on a social media site—this may consist of a user name, gender, location, and more.
social media A means of communicating online used by large groups of people to share information and interact socially.
social networking site Places on the Internet where people meet in cyberspace to interact—Facebook is the best-known social networking site.
trending topics On Twitter, topics that a lot of people are currently talking or tweeting about.
tweet A post on Twitter; tweets must be 140 characters or fewer. Tweet can also be used as a verb (“He tweeted about this great sale.”).
Web 2.0 A term that refers to the increasingly interactive quality of Internet sites and programs.
wiki A website or similar online resource that allows users to add and edit content on a particular topic or entry. Wikis may not always be the most accurate source of information since they are open to editing by a wide range of people. Wikipedia is the best-
