| computer | an electronic device, operating under the control of instructions stored in its own memory; can accept data, process data, produce data, and store information for future use |
| hardware | electric, electronic, mechanical components of a computer |
| laptop (notebook computer) | lightweight, mobile computer |
| tablet | lighter-weight computer with a touch screen |
| desktop (PC) | personal computer to fit on or under a desk/table; contains a display, tower, and keyboard |
| all-in-one | desktop that has no separate tower |
| server | computer dedicated to providing one or more services to other computers or devices on a network |
| network | collection of computers and devices connected together, often wirelessly |
| Servers can: | store content, control access to hardware and software |
| smartphone | an Internet-capable phone that usually also includes a calendar, an address book, a calculator, a notepad, games, and other apps |
| app | a program on a smartphone |
| digital camera | a device that allows you to take photos and store the photographed images digitally; sometimes allow you to review and modify images |
| portable media player | mobile device on which you can store, organize, and play or view digital media |
| digital media | music, photos, and videos |
| e-book reader | digital book, electronic version of a printed book, readable on computers and other digital devices |
| game console | mobile computing device designed for single-player or multiplayer video games |
