Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) Series of Windows Server 2012 R2 admin utilities that you download from MS and install on a Windows 8.1 computer. RSAT enables you to perform server administrative actions from your desktop computer, including management actions on older Windows Servers
Failover Failover refers to the NIC Teaming concept of using multiple links in an Active/Passive configuration. If the active link fails, the passive link is promoted to an active state allowing data to continue to flow.
Feature An optional component that adds a specific function such as Network Load Balancing.
Features on Demand A new ability of Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 that enables you to preserve space by completely removing roles and features along with source files from the operating system.
Desired State Configuration (DSC) DSC is a PowerShell extension designed to enhance the levels of automation using PowerShell 4.0. It helps administrators cut down on repetitive tasks by defining prebuilt configurations that accompany a PowerShell cmdlet.
Load Balancing Load balancing is a function of NIC Teaming and also a concept in which network traffic is split across multiple links to provide increased throughput.
Sconfig.cmd A text-based Windows Server 2012 R2 Server Core utility that enables you to configure a series of common Server Core properties.
Windows PowerShell An enhanced task-based command-line scripting interface that enables you to perform a large number of server management tasks. You can create scripts that enable automated management of large numbers of servers at the same time.
Server Core Feature of Windows Server 2012 R2 that enables you to install a minimal version of the server without a GUI, Can hold most of the roles that ordinary Windows Server 2012 R2 computer holds, but with a smaller network footprint and fewer points of attack.
Server Manager A Windows Server 2012 R2 management utility that enables you to perform a large range of management tools on your server or other servers on the network.
Role A specific function that a server performs on the network such as a file server or terminal server.
Role Service A role service is a component of a role that focuses on providing a specific function to support the specific role.
