Operating Systems software that controls a computer
Graphical User Interface (Gui) provided by windows, uses graphics as compared to a command driven interface
Desktop initial screen that is displayed after a user logs on
Aero User Interface gives a glassy apperance
Aero Snap automatically maximizes a window when you drive it to the top of the desktop
Aero Shake Minimizes all other windows except the one you shake
taskbar normally located at the bottom of your windows screen displaying information about open programs and providing quick access to others
Jump List provides access to some of the major functions of the program
Aero Peek gives you a peek of the desktop
Notification area also called system tray or systray is usually on the right side of the taskbar and displays open services
Service runs in the background to support or serve windows or an application
Personalize you can make windows more your own by adding a background and a theme and also mouse action
Screen resolution number of pixel on the monitor screen
Volume divided parts of the hard drive
Path the steps you take to get to a certain file
File Name the first part of the name before the period
File Extension indicates how the file is stored of formatted
Navigation Pain pain on the left side of windows explorer displaying different folders and drives
Library a collection of one or more folders
Compressed (Zipped) Folder is a smaller size than normal with file extension .zip.
Briefcase a folder type that can be synced with multiple computers
Rename right click on the file to change its name
Delete to remove a file
File Attributes the properties assigned to a file
System Window gives you a quick look at the software and hardware installed on your machine
Service Pack major OS update
Patches minor updates and fixes
A 32 Bit Operating System processes 32 bits at a time
64 Bit Operating System processes 64 bits at a time
Windows Experience Center gives a summary index designed to measure the performance of the machine
Actions Center New in windows 7 lists errors and issues that need attention
User Account control Dialog Box (UAC) displays a dialog box when an event requiring admin privilege's is about to take place
Administrator Account has more privileges than a standard account has
Standard Account has very limited privileges compared to an admin account
Network and Sharing Center a failed network connection can sometimes be resolved by using this
Child Directories & Subdirectories a folder inside a folder or directory inside a directory
Control Panel a window containing several programs to manage hardware software users and the system itself
Device Driver primary windows tool for managing hardware
Gadget a mini app that appears on the windows 7 desktop or vista sidebar
Root Directory the main directory consisting of several subdirectory's and child directories
System Tray or Systray an area to the right of the screen of thr taskbar that holds the icons for running services
